Goldie’s Youth Sports
“Goldie’s (Basketball) League isn’t just some normal league that is all-girls, it is a community. Every team that competes is a group full of friends, and girls know each other even outside of these groups. I think that I play a better game when I am surrounded by my friends and feel the girl empowerment all around the community. Being together as an all-girls community really encourages us to all be leaders and care for each other in a way that we will cherish. It makes me proud to be a girl. I am so grateful to be a part of this community of young women, and I cannot wait for the next season.” Sienna, 6th Grade participant in Goldie’s Youth Sports All-Girls Basketball programs.
Eight years ago, we created Goldie’s Youth Sports—a nonprofit dedicated to building confidence, community, and equality through athletics. Our programs bring sports enrichment directly into schools, enhancing each child’s experience while fostering a culture where every student feels they belong.
We’ve partnered with schools such as The Oakwood School, The Oaks School, and St. James Episcopal School, providing after-school basketball programs that uplift girls as athletes and leaders. We’ve also advised private schools on creating gender fairness in PE and athletics—because we believe the schoolyard should be a place where girls have an equal voice, equal space, and can proudly say, “I belong on the court, too.”
Girls’ sports aren’t just about the game—they’re a powerful tool for building self-esteem, leadership, and resilience. Through our leagues, clinics, and private instruction for girls from 1st to 10th grade, we’ve created a competitive yet nurturing environment where young athletes can grow in skill, confidence, and camaraderie.
We believe every girl deserves coaches who hear her, mentors who believe in her, and teammates who respect her—regardless of age or skill level. Achieving this means investing in parity and inclusivity in athletics, and working together—as coaches, parents, and a community—to change the narrative for girls in sports.
Because when girls have a place to play, they find their place in the world.
A Little About Goldie (Karen Goldberg)
Goldie hails from the sports-rich region of New England—born in Boston and raised in Brockton, Massachusetts. From an early age, sports were at the heart of her childhood. She played little league and joined several co-ed teams, but it was the all-girls leagues—basketball, tennis, softball, and track—that left the deepest mark.
She also spent summers at an all-girls sleepaway camp, where athletics went far beyond the scoreboard. There, sports were about empowerment, leadership, confidence, and self-worth. The camaraderie, teamwork, and sense of inclusion she experienced in those spaces shaped her into the woman she is today.
Goldie feels deeply grateful for the opportunity to grow up in competitive, encouraging, and community-based all-girls sports and camps—environments that taught her the lifelong value of belonging and believing in herself.
